Sherrod, Maureen J., age 82, of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Tennova Residential Hospice. She was born in Cape Town, South Africa and met her husband Dan when he was serving in the United States Marine Corps. They were married in Cape Town on January 26, 1946 and returned to the United States later that year. Maureen became a United States citizen on December 15, 1948. She was an active member and Sunday school teacher of Asbury United Methodist Church. Maureen retired from Tennessee Asphalt Company where she served as Secretary-Treasurer. Preceded in death by husband, Dan F. Sherrod; parents, Michael and Jean Russouw; brothers, Desmond and Reginald Russouw, and infant brother, Michael Russouw. Survived by son and daughter-in-law Dan and Sissy Sherrod; daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Jeff Burkhart; grandchildren, Kelly Mynatt and husband David, Jason Sherrod and wife Amanda, Corey Burkhart, and Wes Burkhart; great grandchildren, Jake, Gabe, Luke, MacKenzie and Avery; sister, Elvira Borges; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Berry Funeral Home and proceed to Asbury Cemetery for a 3:00 P.M. graveside service, Rev.
