Frances Terry Lide, 81, of Washington DC and Atlanta, passed away Wednesday night after a brief illness. Francis was the daughter of Brooks Smith Lide and Francis Sturges Lide, both of Meridian, MS. Francis was a graduate of Meridian High School and Vanderbilt University where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in Spanish. Francis joined the US Foreign service as a secretary and rose through the ranks to become a Consul, retiring after 45 years of service to her country. Francis served in many countries, including Bolivia, Niger, France, Germany, Ireland, England, Japan and Canada before completing her final assignment in Washington DC. After retirement Francis eventually moved to St Anne’s Terrace in Atlanta to be nearer her family. Francis was a voracious reader and an avid member of the Jane Austen Society. She loved to vast with her friends and family, telling stories of her many foreign adventures. Francis is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Brooks and Cary Lide, her nephews Brooks (Connie) Lide and Bill (Heidi) Lide, nieces Caroline (Kerry) Ketchum) and Courtney (Bill) Dickey and 9 great nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in Francis Lide’s name to Hospice Atlanta, 1244 Park Vista Drive, Atlanta, GA 30319. Interment will be in Meridian, Mississippi.
