Charles A. “Charlie” Jernigan, 88, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away on November 6, 2012. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Grover and Amelia (Jones) Jernigan, Charlie arrived on November 21, 1923.
Charlie married Helen Ballew on November 15, 1953. They lived in Fort Smith for over 40 years before moving to Arizona in 2000. Charlie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in For Smith, where he was an Elder, a Deacon, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. After moving to Mesa, he and Helen became members of Church of the Master Presbyterian Church in Mesa, Arizona. Charlie was a member of the Fort Smith Rotary Club for over 20 years, serving one year as President. For over 50 years, Charlie was an Insurance Agent for Penn Mutual Life Insurance and also sold Mutual Funds. He was an avid tennis player for 70 years.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen Jernigan; daughters, Becky Beck (Al), Jennifer Jernigan, Janet Jernigan, and Helen Bleach (Michael). He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Jernigan.
Charlie will forever be remembered as a loving husband and father.
A Visitation for Charlie will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 5-7 pm at Mariposa Gardens Funeral Care, 400 South Power Road, Mesa, Arizona 85206, (480) 830-4422. Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 12, 2012 at Rose Lawn Cemetery, 5403 North O Street, Fort Smith, Arkansas 72904.
