Prestley L. Hayes of Yonkers died on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at age 70. Born on July 6, 1942 to Thomas and Mildred (Bell) Hayes in Chase City, Virginia. Mr. Hayes worked as the Supervisor of Shipping for P.F. Labs in Totowa, New Jersey until his retirement in 1997. On September 29, 1975 he married Leeanna, Queen, she died in 2003. Prestley proudly served his country in the Army during the Vietnam war and was awarded two purple hearts. He was a member of the Elks Lodge on North Broadway and the Veteran Post on Warburton. Mr. Hayes is survived by his five children; Tara (Baron Moore) Sturgis; Lionel Sturgis; Deltra Sturgis, Prestley (Darrell) Hayes (Amy) Jr., and Anthony (Tony) Hayes. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and three brothers Richard (Ethel); Harry and Sylvester (Joyce) Hayes and five sisters; Barbara Newby, Annie (John) Sally, Mildred (George) Taylor, Dora Thompson and Jane Hayes. Visiting hours will be at the Community Baptist Church (corner of North Broadway and Ashburton) on Monday, November 12th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the church on Tuesday, November 13th at 10:00 a.m. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery. Donations may be made to Calvary Hospice.
