McALEER Bernadette Carter McAleer, age 87, passed away at her home in Point Clear, AL on November 8, 2012. Bernadette "Chubby" was born on February 5, 1925 in Mobile, AL where she lived most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Arends McAleer Sr.; parents, Norman Lafayette and Etta Mae Ellsworth Carter; sisters, Catherine Carter, Etta Lee Carter Sciple, Margaret Carter Toenes, and Mary Frances Carter West. She is survived by her sisters Dorothy Carter (James) Dolan, Elizabeth Ann Davis, Eleanor Carter O'Brien, Norma Loretto "Nonie" (Dan) Hurley, her brother Robert Joseph Carter and her brother-in-law, Warren West. Married to Joseph Arends McAleer for 52 years, she was a loving wife and the mother of their seven children; Jeanne McAleer Sanderford, Patricia "Patty" McAleer Dorgan, (Billy) Joseph Arends "Mac" McAleer, Jr. (Pattie) Nanette Elizabeth Mcaleer "Libba" Tillman, (Lee) Sandra McAleer Middlebrooks, (Sherwood) John Norman "Jack" McAleer, (Jamie) and Shannon McAleer Silvernail, (Patrick). Bernadette is also survived by her 20 grandchildren; Carter Sanderford, Ryan Sanderford, Patricia Hayden, (Jeff) Pamela Lee, (Mike) Barbie Hasselbring, (Karl) Bernadette Switzer, William Dorgan, Jr., (Rebecca) Maureen Neuumann, (David) Becky Dickerson, (Matt) Karen Sipe, Joseph Arends McAleer III, (Amanda) Daniel Tillman, (Anna) Zachary Tillman, Jonathan Tillman, (Stefanie) Jeremy Middlebrooks, Lauren Johnson, (Dan) Jennifer Martin, (Phillip) Alexander McAleer, Emily "Emmie" Crump, (Judson) Vaughan Silvernail, (Courtney) as well as 33 great-grandchildren. Bernadette attended St. Mary's school and graduated from Visitation Academy. Once married to Joseph, she enjoyed being with her family mostly. She played golf for many years and was a member of Skyline Country Club Ladies' Golf Association. She accepted her declining health and was an inspiration to others who admired her sense of humor in the face of difficulty. Bernadette spent her last months at home with her family and care givers, including Mary Carmichael and nurses from Maxim and Covenant Hospice. Bernadette was a founding member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and became a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church when she moved "over the bay" in 2003. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday, November 10, 2012 at St. Dominic Church following the rosary and visitation at noon. The burial will be in Catholic Cemetery.
