Mary Jane Turnipseed, 55 of Fort Smith, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012 in Fort Smith. She was born November 9, 1957 in Fort Smith to Theron and Dorthye McKenzie. She was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. She was a 1980 graduate of Ouachita Baptist University. She retired from the Van Buren Public Schools System after 28 years where she was the AP History Teacher. Mrs. Turnipseed took a group of her AP Students to D.C. for President Clinton’s Inauguration. She received National Recognition as a Grader for Education Testing Services. She also published a paper on the history of Van Buren. She was preceded in death by her brother Dennis Padilla. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, November 15, 2012 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church with the Reverend Jerry Jenings, Lorenzo Lee, Stanley Whitmore, and G.L. Hinkle officiating the services. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith. She is survived by her husband Stanley Keith Turnipseed of the home; two sons: Stanley Keith Turnipseed, II of Fort Smith and J. Cody Turnipseed and his wife Emily Ann of Fort Smith, her God Daughter: Jordan Rae Garcia of Van Buren, her parents Theron and Dorthye McKenzie, and her mother-in-law, Donna Turnipseed of Fort Smith. Pallbearers will be Billy Joe Releford, Billy Smith and Ushers of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will by James Jones, Robert Shepherd, Leonard Williams, and Nathan Earp. Family will receive friends at their home 601 May Avenue, 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Wednesday, November 14th. Memorials may be sent to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church 4502 Young Street Ft. Smith, AR 72904.
