He was born on January 29, 1923 in Lexington, NC and was the son of the late Guy T. Saunders, Sr. and Lucy Rowland Saunders. After graduating from Charlotte Central High School in 1941, he joined the Navy and served on the USS Core during WWII.
Tommy was a member of Tabernacle ARP Church and enjoyed painting, gardening, history, genealogy, stamp and coin collecting. He was an active member in various organizations including Sons of the American Revolution, American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Stonewall Jackson Post 1160.
Surviving is his brother, Charles Saunders, sister, Emma Beduhn; nieces and nephews, Anne Saunders, Jim and Chuck Saunders, Marsha, Kathy, Nancy, Elizabeth, Scott, Todd, Kent, Billy and Bryan.
A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, Nov. 17th at Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Military Rites will follow the service.
