Mary was born in Whitney, Texas on December 5, 1925. She grew up in Wichita Falls, graduated from Midwestern University and achieved her Master’s degree in Voice Performance at North Texas State. Mary taught music in Wichita Falls, and was a vocal soloist at 1st Baptist Church. It was there that she met and married her husband Elwyn Morton. Community-wide, Mary was highly acclaimed for her unique singing voice, and consequently performed for dozens of various types of events! After she and Elwyn moved to Lubbock, Mary taught private music lessons; she also taught music for Lubbock ISD for 30 years - most recently at Rush Elementary. After retirement, Mary wrote and published a genealogy history of the Lightfoot family, entitled Calling All Lightfoots; she was also an active member of the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mary and Elwyn celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on May 31st.
She is survived by her husband, a daughter, DeeAnn, her grandson, Jacob, and 2 beloved felines. Visitation will be held at 6:00pm until 7:00pm Monday November 19, 2012 at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 2nd Baptist Church in Lubbock with Ryon Price officiating.
