Bill was born January 15, 1932 in West Frankfort, IL to Onie Mae (Howell) and Francis Marion Harrison. He was a member of the Class of 1950 at Edwards County High School. He was a Veteran, serving during the Korean War and was a lifetime member of the VFW. Bill worked as a farm hand and at Prairie Farms Dairy, also for the Village of West Salem prior to working for Champion Laboratories from 1975 to 1997, the year he retired. Bill was a member of “The Coffee Shop Club”, which was every coffee shop he could find, to share his jokes. He loved a good joke. He also enjoyed visiting the Amish and Mennonite communities. Bill was also an animal lover.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Lucille Harrison, Helen Byford, Ramond Harrison, Jessie Morris and five siblings who passed in their youth: Loma, Cecil, Arthur and twins Hula and Beulah. He was also preceded by one great-grandson; Keaton Lane Mewes.
He is survived by two daughters; Patti and husband Max Michels of Albion, IL, and Beverly Hall of Lancaster, IL, one son; Gary and wife Angel Harrison of Dundas, IL, seven grandchildren: Megan, Jae, Misti, Jill, Brandon, Nikki and Dustin, and six great-grandchildren: Daxton, David, Laney, Annastasia, Exavier and Malachia.
Per his wishes, the body will be cremated. A Memorial Service to Celebrate the Life of Bill Harrison will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 3:00PM at the Ingram Funeral Home in West Salem, IL. Inurnment will follow at Oakhill Cemetery, Parkersburg, IL. Visitation will be held from 1:00PM to service time. Family and friends are encouraged to participate in the 3PM Service by sharing a memory and /or bringing something that symbolizes their favorite memory of Bill, to display and share about, if they so desire.
Memorials may be made to the Edwards County Senior Center, West Salem American Legion or the Salvation Army in memory of Bill.
