Leona J. Cornish, 92, of Battle Creek Formerly of Albion, passed away Saturday November 17, 2012 at her residence. She was born September 13, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois to Peter and Jennie (Buis) Verbaere. On April 17, 1942, she was married to Von Theodore Cornish in Coldwater, Michigan and he preceded her in death February 14, 1981.
She has lived in Battle Creek for the last 2 ½ years moving from Albion, she was a Homemaker. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church while in Albion and has attended the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Battle Creek for the last 20 Years.
She is survived by 3 Daughters Andriana (Kent) Spitler of Midlothian, VA; Connie L. Yates and Gloria J. Cornish both of Battle Creek, MI; 3 Sons Von T. Cornish Jr. and Michael E. (Sandy) Cornish both of Albion; and Lee R. Cornish of Battle Creek, MI; 16 Grandchildren; 33 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren; 1 Sister Jennie Anderson of Chicago,IL; 2 Brothers Jerry Verbaere of Chicago, IL and Fred (Joan) Verbaere of California. Besides her Husband Von Theodore Cornish, she was preceded in death by 1 Son David; 3 Grandchildren Dawn Cornish, James and Laura Yates; 1 Sister Martha Shaffer; 2 Brothers Peter and Lou Verbaere.
Visitation for Family and Friends will be Tuesday November 20, 2012 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, MI 49224. Funeral Services will be Wednesday November 21, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Funeral Home with Rev. Kory Geske and Rev. Fr. Joseph Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery- Albion.
