It is with sadness that we announce that Joy passed away peacefully while reading the paper in bed at Hollyburn House in West Vancouver on November 14. Born in Northampton England, as an only child, Joy leaves behind her husband of 59 years, Derek Thomas also at Hollyburn, her children Andrew, Joanne and David, and their families Maura, Liisa, Brendan, Erin, Lianne, Michael, Tywen, Brynne, Noah, Wyatt.
Joy was gifted in music, graduated from the Royal Academy of Music and enjoyed the piano more than anything. She found ways to play as she moved around the world – first immigrating to Montreal as a new bride, and then raising her children in Connecticut, Geneva, the jungle of Guyana, the hills of Jamaica, and Brazil and in between living in Montreal multiple times. Joy and Derek’s final move was to West Vancouver, where they subsequently retired. Joy enjoyed the views, her dogs and her birds. A reception to celebrate her life will be held in the lounge at the West Vancouver United Church, 2062 Esquimalt Avenue at 2:30, Sunday November 18th. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Joy’s name to the Oppenheimer Park Program at the West Vancouver United Church.
