Theodore Hubert Rudd was born March 6, 1937 in Yakima, Washington. He passed away November 16, 2012 as the result of an auto accident.
Ted was raised in Naches Heights on his parents, Hubert and Marie Rudd’s apple ranch. As a boy he worked on the ranch, and was active in Scouting where he earned his Eagle Scout award. At Highland High School he was elected honorary captain of the football team his senior year. He also ran track and played saxophone in the school band.
After high school he attended Washington State University, where he was proud to be a Cougar, and graduated with a degree in zoology under the tutelage of Herb Eastlick and other fine instructors. His love of the sciences led him to confirm his dream of becoming a physician and he was accepted into the University of Washington Medical School, where he graduated with his M.D degree in 1963.
After an internship at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, he completed a tour in the Air Force as a Captain on the medical service at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana. He then returned to Yakima, where he entered Private Practice, initially as a family physician, sharing his Westpark office in those years with Dr. Richard Stiles. After several years in family practice, he elected to pursue further training, and completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Utah.
After completing training he returned to Yakima, where he would practice throughout his career until retirement in 2006. Ted was a proud contributor in the Yakima Valley OBGYN community. He served as president of the Washington State Obstetric Association, and was President of the Yakima County Medical Society for a number of years. He gave generously of his time supporting the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic, was involved in the Planned Parenthood Program for many years, and taught residents in the Yakima Valley Family Practice residency.
Ted enjoyed skiing at White Pass and boating in the San Juan Islands. He has a special place in his heart for animals and was an avid supporter of the Humane Society.
