Former Member of Parliament for Vaudreuil- Soulanges and former Mayor of the Town of Kirkland, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at the Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Nick devoted his life to his family and friends and treated none as a stranger. He leaves behind his wife and love of over 43 years, Mary Alice (Chambers), his four children, Lisa (Marc Price) of Toronto, Laura (Daniele Vassallo) of Toronto, Michele (Andrea Webb) of Singapore and Marco of Montreal. His adoring grandchildren, Chiara, Gianluca and Natalya, will forever have a guardian angel watching over them. He is also survived by his mother Immacolata Discepola (Stoppiello) and brother Marino (Josie). He was predeceased by his father Domenico. He will always remain "Zio" to his many nieces and nephews. His family thanks all those who were involved with his care, especially Dr. Malcolm Moore, Laura Lancaster, Dr. Julia Ridley, Ariana Lopez, Dr. Subrata Banarjee and all the nurse-angels who cared for him while in palliative care. He was elected Mayor of Kirkland in 1989 and served until 1993 when he was first elected as a Member of Parliament. He was re-elected twice and served until 2004. He was deeply committed to his beloved country and was determined for Canada to remain the envy of many nations. Visitation will take place at Centre funéraire Côte-Des-Neiges, 4525 Côte-des- Neiges, Montreal, Saturday and Sunday, November 24-25, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass to be held on Monday, November 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Brendan Church, 3542 Rosemont Boulevard, Montreal. Burial to follow at the Notre-Dame- des-Neiges Cemetery.
