Loren Harvin Stiles, beloved father and grandfather passed away Friday, November 23, 2012 in Dallas, Texas. Loren was born in Celina, Texas to David Loving Stiles and Lottie Helms Stiles on August 3, 1923. He attended Texas A&M University, Class of ’46, graduating in 1948 after serving in the army during World War II. Loren served with Company B of the 103rd Infantry Division during WWII earning the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. After graduating from Texas A&M University with a degree in Civil Engineering, he was employed by Humble Oil & Refining Company where he would serve in many positions for the next 44 years before retiring in 1992. Loren married Shirley Iris Fletcher on September 1, 1951 and moved to Midland, Texas shortly after their wedding. Active in the First Christian Church, Loren served as an elder and taught Sunday school for over 40 years. He cherished time spent with family and friends, loved photography, and was an avid reader. He had a passion for travel that led him and Shirley to travel extensively throughout the world. All who were blessed to know him will miss his smile, optimism, and quick wit, as well as his love of learning and deep dedication to the care and well being of all people whom he met.
Loren was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Shirley, and one brother, Edwin Stiles of Celina.
He is survived by his daughter, Ginger Westbrook and grandchildren, Christopher and Katherine; son, Robert Stiles and wife, Michele and granddaughters, Sarah and Caroline; son, David Stiles and wife, Laurie and grandchildren, Kailee and Brandon; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 1:30p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at First Christian Church in Midland, Texas, 1301 W. Louisiana Avenue. Online condolences may be offered at www.ellisfunerals.com.
