Joseph Leslie Sauvé, 80, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 1, 2012, following a courageous battle with cancer. Joe was born in Melville, Saskatchewan, Canada, on December 9, 1931, to Peter and Elsie Mae Sauvé. His parents, sisters, Lillian and Barbara, brothers-in-law, Morley Dean and Wally Atkinson, and nephew, Dr. James Underhill preceded him in death.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Arden, and his children, Joanne Sauvé Polansky, Sharon Sauvé High, Douglas Sauvé, Janice Sauvé and Kathleen Sauvé; sons-in-law Neil Polansky and Harper High, and daughter-in-law Dee Sauvé. His grandchildren were the joy of his life: William Polansky and wife, Layna, Samantha Sauvé, David and Kyle Polansky and Zachary High. His sisters, Mari Dean and Lauretta Howard, and his sisters- and brothers-in-law, Marilyn and Dr. Ted Underhill, Barb and Bryan Sharpe, Bill and Lynda Rogerson, Cal Howard and Arthur Jeggo also survive Joe, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe spent his early years in Canada, and played for the Regina Pats hockey team before attending Michigan State University. He spent his career with Exxon, working throughout the U.S., South America and Asia, retiring in 1986 as Controller for Esso Eastern. Following his retirement he worked for Petrowax in Bradford, Pennsylvania, and Raleigh, North Carolina, before returning to Houston.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. at Church of the Holy Apostles, 1225 W. Grand Parkway South, Katy, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Mission’s Ministry at Church of the Holy Apostles.
