Robert Swenson, age 88, passed away on December 2, 2012, at the LaVilla Grande Care Center in Grand Junction, CO.
Robert was born on June 23, 1924, to Ralph and Hazel (Stewart) Swenson, in Snoqualmie Falls, WA. He spent his childhood in Snoqulamie, WA, graduating high school there as well. He served as a Marine from 1944 to 1946.
Robert married Wanda Thompson; they had four children, and later divorced. He married his wife, Lola, on September 15, 1972, in Port Angeles, WA.
He held a variety of jobs over the years during his residence in Washington State and Grand Junction, CO, including: an Inspector at Boeing in Seattle, WA; a Lumber grader at a Weyerhaeuser Mill, owner of an Exxon service station, and a Custodian at Monroe Elementary in Port Angeles, WA.
Robert enjoyed gardening, painting, and singing. He was a member of the Bethel Assembly of God and local VFW.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Ralph and Hazel Swenson; his brothers: Stewart, Ralph, and George Swenson; his sisters: Grace Batty and Irene Fury; and his grandchild, Matthew Swenson.
Robert is survived by his wife, Lola; his sons: Bob (Robin) Swenson, of Lake Tapps, WA; Jim (Patty) Swenson, of Port Angeles, WA; Earl (Vicki) Locke, of Glendale, AZ; Berl (Kelly) Locke, of Phoenix, AZ; his daughters: Sue (Bruce) Beamer, of Oak Harbor, WA; Sharon Yakanak, of Anchorage, AK; Gala (Bill) Case, of Clifton, CO; Mavis (Joe) Bounds, of Grand Junction, CO; his sister, Trudy Thompson, of San Antonio, TX; also 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
There will be a Visitation on Monday, December 10, 2012, at Martin Mortuary between 5 and 7 pm. A Memorial Service for Robert will be held at the Bethel Assembly of God Church (2945 Orchard Ave) on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at 10:30 am with Pastor David Huslig presiding. Interment, with honors, will be at the Veterans Cemetery of Western Colorado following the Memorial Service at 1 pm.
