A lifelong resident of St. Amant, he passed away on Monday, December 3, 2012. He was 80 years old. He was assigned to Company D in the 2nd Infantry Division 23 Regimen in the US Army, where he received the Purple Heart and Medal of Honor for his service during the Korean Conflict. He was a lifetime honorary member of the VFW and American Legion. He also worked in the Louisiana Leper Home in Carrville for 13 years, where he put his superb cooking skills to good use.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elsie Babin Frederic; six daughters and five sons-in-law, Arlene and Kenny Sutton, Joelle “Jody” and Alfred Dedon Jr., Rosanna and Wayne Stafford, Mona Lisa Young, Hope and Billy Fontenot, and Amanda and Virgil L. Chamness; son and daughter-in-law, Dewey Jr. and Beth Frederic; five sisters, Dolores Babin, Elsie Moran, Eva Gonzales, Sonya Moran, and Joan Bercegeay; two brothers, Dennis and Kenny Frederic; 16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, Johney S. and Leonise Moran Frederic; sister, Vernice Johnson; brother, Johney Joseph Frederic; and parents-in-law, Beulah and Felicien “Boy” Babin.
A visitation will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Amant on Thursday, December 6, 2012 from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., conducted by Rev. Jon Koehler. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Sutton, Jeremy Starnes, Johnny Dupuy, Kody Frederic, Konner Frederic, Stephen Chamness, and David Dupuy. Honorary pallbearers will be Kale Frederic, Shane Young, and Alfred Dedon III.
