October 13, 1926 to December 6, 2012
If you knew Twylah Dotson, you have probably had a good belly laugh, been accused of cheating at cards or dominoes, and eaten lots and lots of cookies!
On October 13, 1926, the world became a better place because Twylah was born. Her generosity, tenacity, integrity, and her sense of humor have touched so many lives in her 86 years. Contrary to her sassy and sparkling personality, she passed away quietly at home surrounded by loved ones on December 6th, 2012 in Grand Junction, CO.
Parents, Otto and Nellie (Hall) Coder must have been very proud of the woman, wife, and mother she was. Twylah made it her life’s work to bring joy to those around her through her hilarious (yet sometimes off-color) jokes, baking cookies and celebrating the people she loved--and that was a lot of people!
She married her husband, Donald Dotson, June 8th, 1944 in Glendale, CA and they returned to Colorado where they made their home while raising five wonderful daughters. Twylah had a close relationship with each one of her girls and to this day, despite the miles between them, they are close with one another because Twylah set the precedent of a strong family unit.
In 1970, she was one of the first women to become a Metropolitan Life Insurance Agent, traditionally a man’s role. Not only did she claw her way into the boy’s club, she came out on top as one of the leading sellers! She left a legacy of success for all women entering the workforce at that time in recent history.
Twylah was the youngest of 6 siblings, and her death was preceded by brothers Wes, Fred, and Harry, and sisters Ginny and Emma Jean. She was always very proud of and enjoyed her 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Her beloved angel collection represents the angel she was on Earth and the angel she will always be in Heaven.
Her eldest daughter, Barbara Reese of St. Louis, MO, followed by sisters Marlene Ashton of Markleville, IN, Carol White of Denver, CO, and Debbie Wertz and Amy Gomez of Grand Junction, CO invite you to celebrate Twylah’s magnificent life at the Redlands Community Church (2327 Broadway) on Friday, December14, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Joe Gross officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Martin Mortuary.
In honor of Twylah’s love of all things pink, please feel free to wear pink in celebration of her joy of life.
