He was born May 5, 1956 in Rochester, MN, son of the late Charles Thomas, Sr. and Mary Alice Schoenfelder Cox. He resided most of his life in Rochester, MN, attending the public schools, including John Marshal High School.
He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran.
Dave loved to cook and throughout his career he worked at Henry Wellingtons, City Café, Newts, and West Fire Grill. He was quite proud of his signature burger, “Dave’s Burger,” on Newt’s menu. The past seven years, Dave has lived in Illinois, working at the RedFire Grill, and most recently at State Farm Corporate Office as an early morning chef, where he often had his regular customer’s breakfast ready before they even ordered.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed his flower gardens, and a good day of sunshine canoeing down the river. He also had many indoor plants and enjoyed music. He will be forever remembered for the many laughs and smiles he shared with family and friends. He is loved and will be greatly missed.
David is survived by his sisters, Pat (Paul) Musolf of Chatfield, MN, Pam (Wayne) Wegner and Paula Oates, both of Rochester, MN; his brothers, Charles T. “Tom” (Ione) Cox, Jr, Joseph F. (MaryAnn) Cox, Jim (Denise) Cox and Jeff (Annie) Cox, all of Rochester, MN. Also surviving are his aunts, uncles, cousins and many nieces and nephews; and long-time friends, Kevin and Jeanne Hull and family.
David’s wish was to use his body as an organ donor. The family will have a Celebration of Life gathering in Rochester, MN at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family, c/o Jeff Cox, 301 18 ½ Avenue SW, Rochester, MN 55902. Online memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.EastLawn-Bloomington.com.
