Mr. Roger B. Fisher, 60, of Greensboro, passed away at his home on Friday, December 14, 2012 after a long yet courageous battle with cancer. The family will visit with friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, December 16 at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home N. Elm St. Chapel. His funeral service will be held on Monday, December 17 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church, with Pastor Mike Barrett officiating. The burial will take place at Westminster Gardens following the funeral services. A separate gathering of friends and family will take place following the burial at the home of Kay Jones, 4756 Scythe Rd., Julian, NC 27283.
In the heart of Jacksonville, NC in 1952, Roger was born to Leonard Fisher and his loving mother Essie Lee Rochelle, with whom he shared a special bond. He attended Dixon High School where he was salutatorian of his senior class and later became a proud graduate of his beloved University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1975. He later went on to attend the University of North Carolina in Wilmington, completing his accounting studies, thus becoming a successful certified public accountant. While living in Wilmington, Roger established his private business, Fisher & Co., with his brother, Tony. In 1992, he relocated to Julian, North Carolina with his wife Ashley, and soon after opened a new office for himself, Fisher CPA.
Roger is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Ashley Dee Fisher; daughter, Maddi Fisher and Andrew Godwin of Wilmington; sons, Sam and Ben Fisher of Julian; granddaughter, Macy; brothers, Tony Fisher and wife Jan of Wilmington, Danny Fisher and wife Edna of Sneads Ferry, and Mitch Fisher and wife Marty of Durham, and many nieces and nephews.
Roger was known for his way with words and seemed to always know what to say. His humor matched his wit and was truly one of a kind, finding a way to laugh in every situation. Roger was a true people person, in every aspect of the word. He thoroughly enjoyed striking up conversations with almost anyone he encountered, valuing a vast array of vibrant characters and personalities.
Family was of utmost importance to him, and despite frequent long work days, he never failed to make time for his family, creating lifetime memories. He was a true lover of nature and found beauty in the most simple of things. He was a lover of all seasons, especially the newness of spring, where he took delight in working his floral garden and taking traditional trips to Lowes with his children. His attentiveness and enjoyment of a vibrant variety of music provided the soundtrack for his life, as he was in was in his highest spirits while singing and dancing with his loved ones. A lover of all sports (participant and spectator), he enjoyed a good game of golf with his brothers, playing basketball in the driveway, managing Little League baseball, and never missed the chance to watch or attend a Tar Heel Game.
The profoundness of his absence has affected many, yet his presence with live on through all that have loved him.
One of Roger's favorite quotes was "I'm a Tarheel born, I'm a Tarheel bred, and when I die I'll be a Tarheel dead."
