He was born to Alfonso R. Alvarez and Rosa (Cortez) Alvarez in Kingsville, Texas on January 27, 1950. After graduating from Henrietta M. King High School in 1969 he began working for a short time in Hotel Management. He later moved to New Braunfels and began a career in Law Enforcement working for the Comal County Sherriff’s Office. He retired from Comal County in 2005 after 22 years of service. Al enjoyed fishing, gardening and working in his yard.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Alvarez; son, Charles A. Alvarez and wife Jenni of Tecumseh, MI; Joseph S. Alvarez of Live Oak, TX; and daughter, Rebekah E. Norman and husband Ben of Benton City, WA; mother, Rosa Alvarez of New Braunfels; grandchildren, Marissa Alvarez, Emilia Alvarez, Matias Alvarez, Genoveva Norman, and Isabel Norman; sisters, Rosemarie Tarlton of San Anotnio; and Belinda Munoz and husband Manuel of Spring, Texas; and Brother, Richard Alvarez of New Braunfels; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
Visitation will be 8:00 AM on Friday at Zoeller Funeral Home and continue until 9:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Tree of Life Church with Pastor LeMoyne Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.
