Patty Jean Vander Wel of Bellevue, WA passed away on December 17, 2012. Patty was born on March 17, 1922 in Yakima, WA, to Lambert Zebedee and Bertha Mae Parrish. She graduated as Salutatorian from Moxee H.S. in 1939. In 1946 she met and married Sherman M. Hogrefe. Together they had one child, Barry.
In the mid 50's Patty relocated to Seattle and eventually Bellevue, where she lived her remaining years. In 1954 she married Louis F. Vander Wel. During their years together, she and Lou were active members of the Nile Country Club, and enjoyed the various charity events and dances. As Patty's son Barry grew older, they followed him around with the Roosevelt marching band creating lasting memories for both. In the later years of their 25 year marriage, she and Lou shared many happy times camping with the Good Sam Club campers at Lake McMurry.
During her working years, Patty was in advertising at David W. Evans & Associates, Vance Shelheimer's, Inc., and, in her later years as an administrative secretary at Puget Power. During her lifetime, Patty was a keen gardener and member of the Ardmore branch of the Bellevue Garden Club. Sewing and crafting were also creative outlets during her lifetime. During the late part of her life, Patty had two wonderful world trips. The first to Europe with one of her High School girlfriends, and the second to the Greek Islands with her beloved niece Joanne.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Geraldine, Helen and brother Jack. She leaves behind her only child Barry Hogrefe and daughter in-law, Kathleen. Her grandson Justin L. Hogrefe (Ginifer) of Fairbanks, AK, and granddaughter Melissa Losh, great granddaughter Arawyn, of Fairbanks, AK. She also leaves behind a grandson, Thomas R. Vincent (Mary) and great grandsons Stephen and Jack, of Easton, PA.
A memorial service in Patty's memory will be held at a later date in January at the Sunset Hills Funeral Home Chapel in Bellevue, WA. Patty will be interred next to her parents within the family cemetery plot at Tahoma Cemetery in Yakima, WA. on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made to: Habitat for Humanity (www.habitat.org/) or The Salvation Army (www.salvationarmyusa.org/).
