Joseph was a machinist. He graduated from Ranken Technical College. He had a long career as anindustrial maintenance machinist and then later in sales. Joe was an avid gardener and fisherman, He loved his family and friends, his home, pool and his dog Mollie.
Joe was a member of the Hope Church, Belleville, Illinois, the Millstadt Sportsmen’s Club, the Quail Club, Millstadt, Illinois, the Boy Scouts of America and the Disabled American Veterans.
Joe is survived by his loving family, wife, Kay E., nee Weible, Altman who he married on July 29, 1978 in Belleville, Illinois; children, Evan J. Altman and Staci Anne Altman; parents, Joseph L. and Marcella J., nee DeMonge, Altman; sisters, Julie A. Altman and Lori L. Nevener; Uncles, James Altman and Melvin (Susan) DeMonge; cousin, Curtis (Linda) Altman; niece, Kelli (Yancy) Carden; nephew, Andrew (Katherine) Nevener and a brother in law, Guy (Fran) Weible.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, Illinois
A memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Hope Church, Belleville, Illinois with Pastor Jay Krumeich officiating.
Interment will follow services in Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, Illinois
