Born February 22, 1930 in Big Rapids, MI to Lynn C. and Edna (Reeverts) Adams, died December 29, 2012 at the age of 82. James lived in East Lansing, graduated from East Lansing High School in 1948 and Michigan State University in 1952. He proudly served his country in the Korean Conflict for the US Army. He served as Sports Director for WKAR Radio/TV from 1961-1993 and was known as the “Voice of the Spartans” for three decades. He broadcast nearly 2, 000 sporting events and was known for his meticulous research and game preparation that set a standard for sports broadcasting. He pioneered Michigan Sports Talk Radio and was recognized by the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame for his career achievements. He also hosted a unique Broadway Music radio program for nearly 40 years. Surviving are his sons Andrew James Adams, Michael (Rose-Ann) Adams; granddaughter Kailey and grandson Kyle James; nephew David (Caris) Dykema and niece Marianne (Tim) Dykema Griffin; nephew Peter Dykema; and sister Mary Jane (Alan) Dykema. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 4, 2013, 12:00 noon at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Avenue, East Lansing, MI. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 3, 2012, 1-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
