Brian Matthew Carman, 32, passed away on December 30, 2012. He was born November 17, 1980 in Jacksonville, FL. He graduated from Blue Valley Northwest High School and Johnson County Community College, and was a senior at KU-Edwards. Brian proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines and the Kansas National Guard. During his service, he was deployed to Kosovo, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia. Brian was a Master Mason in the Lawrence Masonic Lodge #6 A.F. & A.M. in Lawrence, KS. He was an Eagle Scout and Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say at H. Rowe Bartle Scout Reservation.
He is survived by his parents, Susan and Gerald Carman, his brother, William Carman; and aunts, uncles, and cousins throughout the country.
Brian was articulate and intelligent, with a quick sense of humor and strong leadership skills. As many friends and family members will attest, Brian thoroughly enjoyed a good debate. He had a wide range of interests, and he was able to convincingly support his positions. Brian’s talent for computers surfaced in his middle school years and remained a passion throughout his life. He was dedicated to physical fitness and enjoyed playing KU rugby. He was a faithful Kansas City Chiefs fan.
Brian will be remembered for his strong sense of honor and loyalty. He expected much of himself and others. He is loved by family, friends, and those with whom he served. He will be deeply missed.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, January 7, 2013. The graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 10 AM at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Rd, Leavenworth, KS 66048. A Memorial service to celebrate Brian’s life will be held at 2 PM at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 12251 Antioch, Overland Park, KS. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service.
