Joan A. Adams, 73, of Manchester, died December 29, 2012 at the Elliot Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on August 28, 1939 in Manchester the daughter of Thomas and Mary (McHugh) Griffiths and was a lifelong resident of the Queen City. She was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of St. Joseph High School for Girls.
She was a member and past president of the DAV and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Eagles and was also a member of the Hillsborough County Nursing Home Guild.
Joan loved being a homemaker and caring for the welfare of her family. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was also a 23 year breast cancer survivor.
She was predeceased by her husband of 35 years Leon Adams in 2001, her sons Dennis Adams in 1968 and Scott Adams in 2012, her sisters Mary Sylvia and Margaret Riley and her brothers Thomas Griffiths and William Griffiths.
Members of her family include her two sons Paul Adams and Christopher Adams and her daughter Patricia Adams all of Manchester, her grandsons Matthew Adams of Canterbury and Timothy Adams of Manchester, her great grandson Ainsley Adams, her sister Jane Wall of Ft. Lauderdale, FL as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was held on Thursday January 3rd from 10 to 11:30AM at the McHugh Funeral Home 283 Hanover St. corner of Beech St. in Manchester followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon in the Shaw Memorial Chapel at St. Joseph Cemetery 448 Donald St. Bedford. Burial followed in the family lot in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joan’s name to the NH Breast Cancer Coalition 18 Belle Lane Lee, NH 03861.
