John Trussia Bennett, III, age 88, formerly of High Point, NC, died Thursday, December 27, 2012 at his home in West Chester, PA. John (Skeet) was born in High Point on October 3, 1924 to the late John Trussia Bennett, Jr. and Vivian Sechrest Bennett.
John graduated from High Point High School in 1941 and joined the Army Air Corp, where he served under General Douglas MacArthur in the Philippines and later in Japan during WWII. John was a gunnery instructor prior to his commission under General MacArthur.
After his honorable discharge from his military service, John worked as a civil engineer and later joined Sears Roebuck and Company in Winston-Salem, NC, until his retirement after 25 years.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Hunsucker Bennett. He is survived by his son, Rodney Morris Bennett, also of West Chester, PA and one sister-in-law, Edna Hunsucker Allen of Blackstone, VA.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Sechrest Funeral Home in High Point. Services for Mr. Bennett will be conducted in the Sechrest Chapel at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 3, 2013. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point.
