It’s impossible to express the deep sadness for Susie’s passing on Monday, December 31, 2012. Caring, compassionate and full of life, she was the beating heart of our family, until she lost her courageous battle with cancer. Susan E. Moerdyk was born on March 17, 1955 in Grand Rapids to Mary and Jim Moerdyk. She was a beautiful, competitive athlete in high school and went on to win national competitions, in a time when women’s sports were not commonplace. She married Chuck Saur in 1985, and together they raised two sons, Dan and Nick, and a couple great Labradors, Scupper and Moose. Susie’s passion for helping kids with disabilities led to her part in creating a school, in partnership with Aquinas College at the Conductive Learning Center. Her big smiles and fun nature would delight every child. Susie loved her cabin in the U.P., Spartan sports, cruising on the boat, happy hours and her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Moerdyk and many loving aunts and uncles. Susie is survived by her husband, Chuck, and sons, Dan and Nick Saur; brother, Steve (Annie) Moerdyk and nephew Jimmy Moerdyk and niece, Carly (Kia) Obudiyat; sister and best friend, Lori Moerdyk; and a big, loving gang of cousins and other friends. We all miss our Susie.
A memorial visitation in celebration of the life of Susie will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. and again from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller Ave. N.E., Grand Rapids. A private family service will be held at 3:00 p.m. The family will host a happy hour in honor of Susie later in the Spring of 2013.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to The Conductive Learning Center Aquinas College, 2428 Burton St. S.E., Grand Rapids, MI, 49546 in memory of Susan Saur.
