Floyd “Tony” Laverdure was born on August 29, 1935 in Cando, ND and left us on December 21, 2012 in Merced, CA at the age of 77.
Right after High School Tony joined the Air Force and served 3 years with MAAG in Taipei, Taiwan. After the service, he graduated and received Bachelor of Science degree at North Dakota State University.
In 1964 he moved to Seattle and later accepted a position in Alaska as a Financial Management Officer with the Federal Government. He lived in Alaska for 27 years and was an avid skier. In 1994 he retired to Seattle, WA and moved to Merced in 2002.
Tony loved to play golf with his buddies and enjoyed a good scotch, occasionally. He was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation and the Merced Theater Foundation. He volunteered at the Merced County Arts Center and briefly at Mercy Medical Center.
Tony was a loving, caring father, husband, and brother and will be missed by all.
Tony was preceded in death by his father, Emil Laverdure; mother and stepfather, Blanche Laverdure Monteith and Robert Monteith; son, Floyd “Frenchie Laverdure; and sister, Judy Wixon.
He leaves behind his loving wife of seven years, Edith Nahas; daughter, Sheryl Laverdure; sons, Jay and Cory Laverdure; stepdaughters, Janet (Pat) Wright and Lara (Brian) White; grandchildren, Bonnie Ancheta, Delores Yust, and Jacqui DeaSilva; brother, James (Juanita) Laverdure; sisters, Shirley Smith and Delores Laverdure; sister in laws, Lillian Dal Porto and Doris Gonella; brother in law, Dr. Larry Blazina and Dennis Wixon; aunt, Edna Gilbrath; and cousins, Darlene Lanham, Chuck (Barbara) Christian, Roger (Betty) Clauson, Pat Cook, and Brenda Erichsen.
In lieu of flowers family requests donations be made to the Merced County Arts Council, 645 W. Main St, Merced, CA 95340; the Merced Theater Foundation, PO Box 716, Merced, CA 95341; or to charity of choice.
A memorial service will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 617 E. Yosemite Ave, Merced, CA on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 with Recitation of Rosary at 9:30am and Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00am.
