Elaine Ames, 89 of Lodi, Ca, passed away Jan. 6, 2013 with her loving family by her side. She was born in Lodi on Jan. 26, 1923 to Joseph (Tad) and Marguerite (Tess) Merrill. Elaine was the third oldest of seven children born to Tad and Tess and was raised on the family vineyard farm east of Galt and then on Harney Lane in Lodi. Being a cheerleader for Galt High School was very memorable for her. She was the happiest though when she spent time with her large family at family gatherings. During her children’s formative years our mother kept very active in her children’s lives in Stockton, Ca. She was a P.T.A. President at our elementary and high schools, a Camp Fire Leader, Den Mother for Boy Scouts and always attended our school or sporting events. Her other passions were gardening and golf. She married our step-dad, Ernest (Buster) Ames in 1953 and they later retired in the Placerville area where they joined the Cold Springs Golf and Country Club. Here they stayed active playing golf. Elaine was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to California Pioneers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, of 50 years, Ernest, her granddaughter Helen Estes; sisters: Marguerite, Maxine Schnaubelt, Frances McKinney, brothers: Joseph, Robert, Melvin, and John. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Gladys Merrill. She leaves behind her children, Tom (Julee) Estes, Richard (Cookie) Estes, Karen (Jim) Waldvogel, Tess (Mike) Hagen, and Hank (Linda) Schnaubelt. She also has 15 grandchildren, Cathy, Richard, Tom, Tim, Tara, Jimmy, Craig, Michael, Terra, John, Mary, Rebecca, Jacob, Tim, Trina, 24 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and many cherished nieces and nephews. Special thanks to all at Vienna Hospital for all the great care they have given to our dear mother. Viewing will be held on Friday, Jan. 11th from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at the Frisbie-Warren & Carroll Mortuary. On-line Guestbook at Frisbiewarrencarrollmortuary.com. Memorial contributions may be expressed to the charity of donor’s choice.
