She was born February 11, 1928 in Texarkana, Arkansas to C.W. and Ethel Vanderslice.
She was employed for many years with Day and Zimmerman in Texarkana, Texas before moving to Crestview, FL in 1973. She owned and operated Ruth’s Craft Shop in Ft. Walton Beach, FL before going to work for Harris/GSSD Corp. in Ft. Walton Beach where she worked until her retirement. In her retirement she was a volunteer for many years at North Okaloosa Medical Center and she was a member of Senior Circle.
Her younger years were filled with horseback riding and she belonged to the Texarkana Quadrille Club (square dancing on horseback). She was an avid outdoor sports fan and enjoyed most all outdoor sports, especially football. GO DALLAS COWBOYS
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Grace Sunday School Class, and the Joy Club in Crestview.
She is preceded in death by her parents C.W. and Ethel Vanderslice, brother, J.M. Vanderslice, nephew Gary Vanderslice and Larry Phillips, brother-in-law Larry (Pete) Phillips of Texarkana and Thomas Lane from Benton, LA.
Survivors include her daughter Vicki R. Jordan (David), granddaughter Bonnie K. Sapp (Shane), great grandchildren Izaiah, Nathaniel and Alyssa Sapp all of Crestview, FL. Also surviving are her three sisters Jeanette Phillips, Joyce Mitchell (Albert) of Texarkana, TX and Carolyn Lane of Benton, LA. Her three surviving brothers are C.W. Vanderslice (Jean) of Texarkana, TX, Akin Vanderslice (Delores) of Longview, TX, Kenneth Vanderslice (Pat) of Waco, TX. Also surviving are her former husband and lifetime friend John E. Baber of Crestview as well as her longtime friend Nelda Janzen from Fayetteville, AR, and her sister in law Shirley Vanderslice. It is not complete without mentioning her dear little dog and constant companion Rascal.
A time of visitation will be held Friday, January 11, 2013 at East Memorial Funeral Home on Moores Lane from 10 until 11:30 a.m. Committal services will follow at East Memorial Gardens in Texarkana, Arkansas beginning at noon.
The family will be at the home of Jeanette Phillips in Texarkana, Texas.
