Most of his life was spent in Long Island, New York and he graduated from Hempstead High School. Edward also attended Hofstra College until he joined the United States Army in early 1942. After much training, he was sent to Officer’s school in Fort Benning, Georgia. Edward graduated and became a 2nd Lieutenant. Later, he was assigned to the 106 Infantry Division and they were sent to Europe. He was a Combat Infantry Company Commander and earned three battle stars, the Combat Infantry Badge, The Bronz Star and the Purple Heart (wounded in the Battle of the Bulge).
On his return, he graduated from Hofstra, and later, earned an MBA from NYU. He worked in the family business (his father started it in 1927). It was repainting fleet trucks and specialized in repainting fire trucks (with the Gold Leaf lettering and stripping). He was with the company for 26 years, and ran it for the last 12 years. His brother took it over and Ed accepted a position as asst/comptroller in the Department of General Services in Nassau County, NY. He retired at age 70, and he and his wife, Sue retired to Florida.
Ed and Sure lived in the Indianwood Golf and Country Club. They were avid golfers and enjoyed their golf membership at the Garden City Golf and Country Club on Long Island. He had five holes in one and she had two. Ed also shot an 85 in 2005. They travelled worldwide and have been to all 5 continents. Ed and Sue flew over the Artic Circle to China, sailed around South America, and sailed a bit of the Antarctic Ocean. They played golf in Europe, Hawaii, many Caribbean islands, and Casablanca. They were married for 63 years and Sue passed away in June 2010.
Ed is survived by his three children, Rick of California; Virginia of New York; and Gary of Colorado; three grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
Services will be private with the inurnment to be held at the family plot in Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, New York.
