After graduating from Davenport High, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return from service, he earned a degree from Augustana College and began working as a civilian for the U.S. Department of Defense, spending most of his career at the Rock Island Arsenal. Even after retirement, John needed to be physically and mentally engaged in life, taking on a variety of jobs and volunteer work. John remained active his entire life and loved dancing, music and boating. He especially enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships he formed at Gold’s Gym, where he worked out and took part in yoga, Zumba and Pilates. He was a wonderful father and grandfather, a proud uncle and loyal friend. His enthusiasm for life kept him young at heart and carried him through 81 strong years. He was preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers and sisters. Those left to lovingly remember him and celebrate his life include his sons: Jeff (Edie) Clark and Scott Clark; daughter, Sue (Roy) Yoder; granddaughter, Carley; girlfriend, Louise; best friend, Chuck Clark and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the members and staff of Gold’s Gym for all their support during this difficult time.
