He was born in San Antonio to Harold and Judy Sanders and big brother Kevin Sanders on November 7, 2007. Alan attended preschool at Crown of Life and PPCD at Hardy Oak Elementary.
Alan was diagnosed with a sarcoma at 17 months old in April 2009. Unfortunately, pediatric sarcomas are very rare and unique, so there wasn't a lot of research for the doctors to work with. Alan was treated at Methodist Children’s Hospital in San Antonio and MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital in Houston. After a roller coaster of successes and recurrences of the tumor, the family was told in September 2012 that there were no more treatment options left. The family was able to spend four months at home seizing every day, every memory, every laugh, smile, and cuddle before Alan passed away.
Alan had a beautiful, fighting spirit who inspired many. He had a great love of numbers, letters, bubbles and monochromatic animals, especially Pandas. Through all of his challenges, he was always able to smile, laugh and blow kisses. He charmed everyone he met.
Alan was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Kan Fat Chow. Alan is survived by his parents Harold and Judy Sanders and big brother, Kevin; maternal grandmother Kwai Ling Chow; paternal grandparents Henry and Helen Sanders; Uncle Peter Chow; Aunt Gloria Sanders; Uncle and Aunt Selwyn and Janet Lee; Uncle and Aunt Abdallah Jamal and Joys Chow; Cousins Jordan, Danika and Marika Lee; Cousins Faiz, Alim, Tajliya and Marjan Jamal.
A visitation service will be held on Friday, January 25 from 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Sunset North Funeral Home located at 910 North Loop 1604 East, 78232.
