Robinson Cooke Trowbridge, 84, formerly of Providence, RI, Westport Harbor MA and Vero Beach FL, passed away on Saturday, January 26th, 2013. Rob was born on Christmas Day in Providence RI. He was the son of the late Charles Eastman Trowbridge and the late Adelaide Cooke Trowbridge and the brother of the late Charles Eastman Trowbridge, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Sally Lee Davis Trowbridge of Providence, RI, Westport, MA and Vero Beach, FL: his 3 daughters: Alicia Lee Trowbridge Patterson of Dover, MA, Susan Trowbridge Young of New Canaan, CT and Carrie Robinson Trowbridge Law of Westwood, MA and Westport, MA; his 3 son-in-laws: David Lyman Patterson, William Birch Young and Duncan Keith Law Jr. and his 6 grandchildren: Katie Lee Patterson, Scott Herbert Patterson, Alexandra Elizabeth Young, William Trowbridge Young, Duncan Keith Law III and Robinson Cooke Trowbridge Law. Rob graduated from the Kearney Nebraska High School in 1946 and attended Brown University. He served in the U.S. Army in Beppu Kyushu Japan and later served in the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air command based in Fort Worth Texas. Rob was the Co-founder and President of Creamer, Trowbridge, Case & Basford, Inc., an advertising and public relations agency with offices in Providence, New York, Pittsburgh, Boston and Hartford. He was the recipient of the RI Advertising Club Silver Medal 1968, Vice Chairman of the New England Council of the American Association of Advertising Agencies and elected to the New England Advertising Hall of Fame in 1982. Rob retired from advertising in 1983 and started his own Consulting Company, offering consulting services to businesses and professional organizations and to advertising and public relations agencies. Under his direction as Chairman of the board of trustees of the Providence Lying In Hospital, for over 25 years, the facility was moved to the RI Hospital complex and became the Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island. He was a major force in the creation of Care New England, a member of the W&I and RI Hospital Advisory Committees and the W&I nominating and marketing committees. Rob was also Chairman of the Swain School of Design in New Bedford, now merged into the University of Massachusetts, South Dartmouth, Director of the RI Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Rhode Island as well as President of the Providence Boys and Girls Clubs. Rob was a member of the Board of Governors of the Agawam Hunt Club and a member of the Hope and Turks Head Clubs in Providence, RI. He was the Golf Chairman at the Moorings Club in Vero Beach, Fl and a President and Honorary Governor of the Acoaxet Club, Westport Harbor MA as well as a co-founder of the Spindle Rock Yacht Club, Westport, MA
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 2, 2013 in The United Congregational Church of Little Compton in Little Compton, RI.
