ROECKNER, James William, 85, of Kettering, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2013. He was born March 23, 1927 in Dayton, Ohio, to Madartus and Loretta Roeckner. He married the love of his life Volena Lilienkamp on May 31, 1952. James was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Alice Scroggy. James is survived by his wife of sixty years, Volena Lilienkamp Roeckner. He is also survived by five children; Gary Roeckner, Pamela (Ted) Cumming, Steve Roeckner, Donna Magin, Kevin (Dawne) Roeckner; seven grandchildren, Nathan, Chris, Michelle, Jared, Taylor, Hayley, and Philip; two great-grandchildren, Kyle and Madison; and one sister, Ellen Middleton and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. James served in the Navy on the USS Ringness during W\’VII. He was a charter member of the Church of the Ascension. He worked for NCR and General Motors. James enjoyed fishing especially on summer vacations in the Les Cheneaux Islands on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with his family, square dancing with Volena, reading novels, quite evenings at home working puzzles, and playing cards. Jim was a wicked good Euchre player. Prayers 10 a.m. on Monday, February 4, 2013 at Tobias Funeral Home¬ Belmont Chapel, 648 Watervliet Ave., with Mass of Christian burial 10:3 0 a.m. at the Church of the Ascension, 2025 Woodman Drive, Kettering, Ohio.
