Dick passed away at his home on January 31, 2013. He was 62. He was preceded in death by his father, Victor Atchity Sr., and survived by his mother, Leona Atchity; his sisters, Jackie Hunt and Janet Spallo; his brothers, Mike, Danny and John; his five sons, Nick, Joe, Tony, Nate and Pat; his six grandchildren, Jackson, Will, Emily, Addy, Anna and Evie; his daughters-in-law Allyson and Michelle; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
Dick graduated from Rockhurst High School in Kansas City, Mo., in 1968, where he excelled in academics and played basketball, baseball and football. After high school he attended Regis University in Denver and later graduated with a degree in Business from Kansas State University. Dick had long, successful career in marketing and sales management with several national corporations, and volunteered as an Alumni Mentor at KSU.
Dick loved sports, especially the Royals and the Kansas State Wildcats. He coached his sons in baseball and basketball throughout their youth. He loved telling stories, listening to music (especially soul and the blues), reading, writing, boating and fishing. Above all, he loved being with his sons and grandchildren. His lively sense of humor, encouragement and profound and practical life advice will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. (with a Rosary at 7p.m.) on Tuesday, February 5 at the McGilley State Line Chapel at 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, Mo., 64145. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, February 6 at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 7444 Main Street, Kansas City, Mo., 64114, with burial at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. The family asks that contributions be made to the Rockhurst High School Scholarship Fund.
