Dr. Etters was born on July 2, 1938 in Chester, S.C. to the late Clarence Etters and Hazel Arny Etters. He graduated from Chester High School and earned his undergraduate and graduate degree from Clemson University in Textile Chemistry. Dr. Etters worked in Danville, Virginia for 23 years as a Senior Research Chemist for the Dan River Corporation and later received his PhD from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. He had been a professor at LSU prior to coming to the University of Georgia where he taught and directed numerous graduate students for 17 years. In 1994, Dr. Etters received the Olney Award from the American textile Chemist and Colorists Association. This is the highest award that one can receive in this professional organization. Dr. Etters had more than 150 papers published in various professional journals.
As a journalist, his passion was to write an article for the past two years for his hometown newspaper, called “Chester Memories”. He also loved riding motorcycles throughout his life and at the age of 62 he purchased his last Harley Davidson motorcycle and loved to travel all over the world with his lovely wife Betty. He also enjoyed golfing and working in his vegetable garden.
