ORONO – Ethelyn L. Gerrish, 85, of Orono, passed away on January 31, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor. She was born on August 7, 1927 in Sangerville, the daughter of Ralph and Ena (Priest) Young. After attending school, Ethelyn started a family and went to work for the local shoe shop off and on over the years doing stitching. For many years she worked nights as a bar tender up until retirement. She was a long time member of the VFW, and former member and Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to go out dancing, enjoyed a good camping trip, as well as doing word searches and crocheting. Ethelyn is predeceased by her first husband, Angus Dalton; two sons, Angus Dalton and Bobby Ashy; six brothers, Theron, Dale, Ralph, Ashley, Weldon, and Arnold; and three sisters, Thena McAlpine, Elvie Clukey, and Nadine Gibbons. She is survived by an ex-husband, Clinton Gerrish of Orono; three sons, Anthony Dalton and wife Ruth of Alton; Stephen Dalton and his partner Roselyn of the Philippines; Mark Dalton and wife Donna of Milford; two daughters, Cynthia Legere and husband Walter of Milford; E. Iris Gross and partner Richard of Greenbush; two step daughters, Lynn and Debbie; two brothers, Damon Young and wife Sharon of Alton; Veral Young of W. Old Town; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A memorial service will take place on 11 a.m. Saturday February 9 at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St. Old Town, Maine 04468.
