James Franklin Manning, 80, of Commerce City, left this world on February 7, 2013 at 5:30 a.m. after a long illness at the home he shared with Sharon and Allen Brunson. James was born on January 2, 1933 to Ernest Vivian and Lilly Mae (Lane) Manning.
Jim had been married twice, with his first marriage he had three wonderful kids, which he adored. On January 24, 1952, he entered the United States Navy and was honorably discharged January 19, 1956. He served around USS Hamul. He attained the rank of Torpedo Mate 3rd Class.
Jim was a lifelong member of the Westminster Elks. He loved playing cards, fishing, playing pool and bowling when he could. He also enjoyed sitting and watching the birds. He always made sure that they had bird food, as he went out every day to feed them.
Jim owned his own company, Jim’s Lawn Sprinkler Service in Commerce City for 53 years. He also worked at the National Western Stock Show in his off-time, even thought he complained a lot, he still loved the National Western Stock Show.
Jim is survived by his two sons, Billy and Bobby Manning of Arvada and one daughter, Alice (Albert) Peterson of Thornton; cousins, Sharon and Allen Brunson of Commerce City; three grandchildren, Mike (Trish) Peterson of Thornton, Maria (Ken) of Denver and Crystal Truman of Florida. Jim had six great-grand children. He also had a special place in his heart for Jackie (Bob) Cory Remmenga of Westminster, Ashley and Daina Brunson of Commerce City, Becky (Tim) Millwater of Idaho Springs, Bill Dugan of Long Run, Missouri and his cousin, Buddy Brunson of Thornton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Vivian and Lilly Mae Manning, one sister, Venita Adair and four brothers, Morris Wayne, Loyal Dee, Marvin Wayne and Leon Vivian.
Jim had a lot of special people in his life, especially his nephew and nieces, who he loved spending time playing cards with, especially when he could beat them. They enjoyed trying to beat him.
Jim was the rock everyone loved. In his last days, he had some very special people who we want to say thank you to: the whole team at Suncrest Hospice and the doctors and the team at the Veteran Hospital.
