Alice completed her journey on earth February 6, 2013 at age 89 after a brief illness. She was grateful for the beautiful life God had granted her, and she was ready to join her husband Jack and loved ones in that home beyond the skies. A visitation will be held in Ellis Funeral Home on Sunday, February 10, 2013 from 4:00-6:00 pm. The family will hold a private graveside ceremony at 10:00 am on Monday, February 11, 2013. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband who passed away September 24, 2000 after 51 and ½ years of marriage.
Alice was born December 14, 1923, in Beeville, TX, to Thomas Hosea Kingrea and wife Mary Francis Issacks Kingrea. She was next to the youngest of eight children. After graduating from high school in Beeville, she entered Southwest Texas State Teachers College (in San Marcos) in 1942 and graduated in 1945. While there she did secretarial work for the Deans of Men and Women, was a twirler with the Bobcat Marching Band and sang in the school quartet, but her heart was in the skies. So on graduation night she departed for New York City to attend the American Airlines Stewardess School. She flew out of Chicago and Fort Worth until her marriage in 1949. They lived in both Fort Worth and Big Spring before moving to Midland in 1952. Alice was a charter member of Golf Course Road Church of Christ and was involved in the Deaf Ministry there. She taught several years in the MISD and sang with the Midland Desert Winds Chapter of Sweet Adelines.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Jack, and six of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son Dick and his wife Scottie of Houston and their two sons: Randall and his wife Andrea Odle of Chattanooga, TN and Curtis and his wife Monica Odle of Waco, TX; her daughter Donna and her husband Randy Smith of Pearland, TX and their son Nicholas; and her youngest brother Thomas and his wife Nancy Kingrea of West Columbia, TX. She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Midland College, 3600 N. Garfield, Midland TX 79705 or the Deaf Ministry of GCR Church of Christ, 3500 W. Golf Course Road, Midland, TX 79705, or the charity of your choice.
