He was born on Oct. 29, 1930 in Whittington, IL, the son of the late Stephen and Mary (Snizek) Gostowski, Sr. He married Opal I. Wilkerson in DuQuoin, IL in 1955 and she preceded him in death in 1995.
Mr. Gostowski was a resident of Springfield most of his life. He retired from FS Growmark in 1994 after 40 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post #32 and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 15014. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean war.
He is survived by a son Stephen (wife Judy) Gostowski III of Glenshaw, PA; 2 daughters, Debora (husband Mike) Biggers of Springfield, and Diane (husband Craig) Thorpe of Glenarm, IL; 7 grandchildren, Keith McComas, Jeremiah and Lucas Biggers, Kristen and Tyler Thorpe, and Evan and Matthew Gostowski; 4 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Allyson, Morgan, and Odin. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Edward Gostowski of Washington, IL, and Lawrence Gostowski of Benton, IL. Several cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive.
Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother Ted Gostowski, and a sister Mary Bryan.
Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield, where visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2013 from 4 to 7 pm. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 at 8:30 am, with Rev. Greg Busboom officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the U.S. Army.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Springfield, or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
