Marjorie Joyce Hale (nee Backus) passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at the age of 85. She was born in Pasadena, CA to E. Rowland and Florence Backus, the youngest of three children. She graduated from Pasadena High School and attended UCLA.
In 1950, Marjorie wed Robert Pearman Hale. Together, Bob and Marge raised five children. Upon retirement, they moved to Oregon.
Marjorie was a Girl Scout Mariner and had a life long love of the outdoors. She never met a word puzzle she didn’t like and was a lifelong “Jeopardy” aficionado. Marjorie was very involved in all her children’s activities. She was a member of the Altar Guild at All Saints Church in Pasadena where she was baptized, confirmed and married.
She is survived by her children, Mary McCord, Richard, Nancy Dunaway, Donald, and James, 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 45 years, Robert, and her siblings Betty Liddycoat and Robert. Services will be held 3 p.m., February 15, 2013 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 11801 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland.
The family would like to thank Barbara Bogdan and the caregivers at Greenridge Assisted Living and Marquis at Vermont Hills for the loving care they provided to our mother.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the American Diabetes Association, two organizations that were near and dear to her heart.
