Donald "Don" Carmine Cartonio Sr., 68 years old, of Portland, ME died Tuesday,
February 12, 2013 in Portland, ME, surrounded by his wife, his children, and his grandchildren.
Don was born in Portland on January 5, 1945 to the late Carmine and Victoria (Cardilli) Cartonio. He attended local schools and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. After his military service, Don joined the Westbrook Police Department. In 1974 he joined the Portland Fire Department, where he was a Firefighter and then later became a Paramedic for Rescue 1.
In August of 1967 Don married his love, Catherine A. Caiazzo. They were married for 45 years and enjoyed raising their 3 children together, and being Nonna and Papa to their grandchildren, who they always enjoyed being around.
Don was a true outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish, and trips up north to camp in Chester, ME were always special to him. When he was not out in the woods somewhere he enjoyed the comfort of all styles of music, and even enjoyed belting out a tune every now and then on his trumpet.
Predeceasing Don are his parents and two brothers, Ralph Cartonio and Joseph
Quinto.
Surviving is his loving wife Cathy A. (Caiazzo) Cartonio of Portland, a son Donald C. Cartonio Jr. and Jen of Kentucky, two daughters; Sabrina Vail and her husband Robert of Portland, and Nancy Cartonio of Portland, six grandchildren; Antonia, Eddie, Olivia, Sophia, Nicholas, Kaden, and two sisters; Anita Balazano and Mary Conicelli.
A period of visitation for Don and his family will be held this Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland, ME. A 9:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial for Don will be celebrated on Saturday the 16th at St. Peter's R.C. Church, 72 Federal St., Portland, ME. Burial and committal prayers will follow at Calvary Cemetery in So. Portland.

Care for Don and his family has been entrusted to the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home of Portland.
