Carlene was born in Phoenix, Arizona on September 13, 1940 to Jesse and Alma Collum. The family moved to different cities with her father’s work, settling in Visalia when she was 8 years old. Carlene graduated from Mt. Whitney High School. Carlene continued her education, obtaining certifications in Cosmetology from Federico’s in Fresno. Later she was an instructor for Delana’s in Fresno. She worked as a Regional Manager for Lyons restaurants as well as a Resident Counselor at The Girls’ Ranch in Scottsdale, Arizona. Carlene met and married Gary Siegenthaler in Cambria, California on October 3, 1989. They worked side by side as Resort Managers at San Simeon Pines Seaside Resort. Carlene received her certificate as an Ordained Minister in 2011. Carlene was honored to marry her daughter Melissa and husband, Pedro. She was a professional and compassionate manager of her staff in any position that she held. In addition to her work, Carlene enjoyed cooking, oil painting, dancing the jitterbug, traveling and most of all spending time with her family. She attended Visalia First Assembly where she was very active in the Women’s ministry, including prison ministry, child and youth ministry. She also worked with CASA and Teen Challenge.
Family and friends will remember Carlene as a devoted and loving wife and mother.
Carlene was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Alma and two sons, Lee and Rod Murphy.
Carlene leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Gary Siegenthaler; her sons, Steve Murphy of Visalia and Michael Bolden Vallejo; her daughters, Kim Murphy of Clarksville, TN and Melissa (Pedro) Bedolla of Woodlake; her brother, Benny Collum of Arkansas and sister, Linda Battenfield of Lemoore, CA. she had 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013 from 12 Noon to 8 pm at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Avenue in Visalia. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Miller Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Visalia District Cemetery.
