George C. Vernon, Sr., of Culver City, CA, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2013.
Born in Gambier, Ohio, on March 18, 1925, George was a product of the Knox County School District, until he moved to California in 1949, where he received his high school diploma. He received an Associate of Arts degree in Public Speaking from El Camino College in Inglewood.
He retired from Northrop in April 1987, after more than 36 years of service. George received numerous awards for his dedicated support to the F-5, T-38, and F-20 aircrafts.
George joined the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in 1969, where he held many official positions such as District Deputy, Grand Exalted Ruler, Past Grand Exalted Ruler, CHEA Vice President, Lodge Exalted Ruler, National Veterans Service Commissioner, all lodge elected and appointed positions, and Past State Vice President.
He was preceded in death of his parents Carl C. and Nancy (DeBolt) Vernon; and wives Mary L. Vernon and Florence (Bernardin) Vernon. He is survived by his son George C. (Christine) Vernon, Jr. of Ball Ground, GA; sons Roger (Cheryl) Bernardin of Culver City, CA and Larry (Marlene) Bernardin of Washington; daughters Linda (Randy) Beaubier and Teri (Richard) Maul of Redding, CA; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert (Nola) Vernon of Fredericktown, OH and James (Phyllis) Vernon of Arcadia, FL.
George and his wife, Mary, enjoyed the company of the BPOE Westchester Lodge # 2050 and BPOE Emblem Club.
