He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ange, a daughter Jane, sons Joseph and Michael, a brother Vincent Perna, MD, daughters-in-law Constance and Joanie, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers Alfred and Joseph, and his sister Mary Sabia, all from Greenwich.
Herb graduated from Greenwich High School and studied Civil Engineering at the University of Connecticut until his enlistment into the US Navy during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After his military service, he spent his entire career in the construction and excavation business in the Greenwich area.
Herb was a member of the VFW, an avid gardener, and enjoyed fishing. He was highly thought of by those whom he knew, and admired by young people as well as his contemporaries.
