CARMICHAEL, JOHN WILLIAM – age 94, of Knoxville, passed away, Wednesday, March 6, 2013. John retired from KUB, with 25 years of service. He was an Honor Veteran in the U.S. Army, 610th Engineers in World War II. John also was in the Battle of the Bulge, Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes Rhineland, Central Europe, and in five major battles. He also served nine years in the Reserves Corps, during the Korean War, and had one year of Commercial Flight training. He was a Boy Scout Leader, loved traveling, belonged to a camping club, a bowling league, and loved racing cars. John was a member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church. He was a part of the greatest generation. Preceded in death by his first wife, Geneva Kelly Carmichael; parents, William and Adah Vittetoe Carmichael; sister, Kathleen Collins; and brothers, Jack and Ed Carmichael. Survived by wife, Wanda Jones Carmichael; sisters, Adah (Albert) Parker, of Chattanooga, Dorothy (Jack) Berrier, of Seymour, Becky Vandergriff of North Carolina, Betty White of Harrison, TN, Billie Fontis, of Las Vegas; special friends, Juanita Britt of Morristown, TN, Shane Ogle of Knoxville; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday, March 8, 2013, from 4pm to 6pm, with the service to follow at 6pm, at Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Vandergriff and Doug Parker officiating. Family and friends will meet at Berry Funeral Home, Saturday, March 9, 2013, at 11am, and go in procession to Highland South Cemetery for a 12pm interment.
