Son of the late Edward and Mary Grace (Ambra) Macek and brother of the late Steven Macek.
Edward was a 1969 graduate of New Bedford High School, attended Bristol Community College and served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. He worked for Lumberman’s Investment Co. (more recently known as Temple-Inland) in Austin for 20 years before deciding to make a career change to drive an 18 wheeler for USA for a living. He had a great love for traveling the open road.
Edward was fun loving and adventurous. He loved his family unconditionally. He will be sorely missed not only by his loved ones but also by his many friends in Austin.
Survivors include, beloved daughter, Tanya Mongeon and her husband Kenneth of Shrewsbury; grandsons, Connor and Owen Mongeon also of Shrewsbury; sister, Linda Macek of New Bedford; brothers, Stanley Macek of New Bedford and Robert Macek of Plymouth; nephew, Steven Macek Jr., his wife Ashley, and their children of Ohio; uncles, George and Gil Ambra both of Fairhaven and several cousins. He was also the former husband of Janice (Wisniewski) Macek of New Bedford.
His funeral will be held Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 10AM at ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by his funeral mass at 11AM at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1359 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be, Wednesday from 5-8PM.
