She was retired from General Electric, but enjoyed many years as a wife, mother and homemaker; spending much of her time caring and loving on the children of the family.
Alta had a gentle spirit with an infectious smile and had a kind word for everyone she met. She prided herself on being "Doctor Grandma" to all in her care. Alta was a member of Elk Creek Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband of 66 years, Clarence Burnett, along with daughter Connie Decker (Bruce) and son Thomas Burnett (Debbie); as well as 3 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 sisters Alene Burton, Dorothy Kerns, and Mabel Barnes, 2 brothers Joe Kerns, and Dallas Kerns along with a host of nieces and nephews.
She will be greeted in heaven by her parents, Hobart and Pearl (Coffey) Kerns, 4 brothers Glenn, Charlie, Roy and little Bud as well as her precious great-great grandson, Hunter.
Visitation will be at Evergreen Funeral Home in Louisville, KY Friday, March 15 from 12-8pm. The funeral service will be on Saturday, March 16 at 2pm. Gifts may be made to Hosparus of Louisville or Kosair Childrens Hospital.
